About the Organizer
Hello! My name is Amari Johnson and I am a Senior at Urbana High School in Urbana, IL. The idea of Urbana having an HBCU College Fair came about because I understood that there are a lot of kids in my school (and the surrounding schools) who do not have the resources to travel to visit various HBCU's and who do not know about the various schools that are available or the majors offered. By bringing some of the HBCU's to them, they do not have to leave the city to learn about the greatness of these schools. As a college student, there are other aspects besides academics to think about: financial aid and how to pay for college, SAT prep and applying to college, taking care of your mental health and physical health while in school, eating on a budget, and student orgs are all an important part of this experience. I plan to bring those aspects to this fair as well! Please plan to attend or participate by representing your alma mater or attending Urbana's first HBCU FAIR!
